The Dīn-i-Ilāhī, known during its time as Tawḥīd-i-Ilāhī or Divine Faith was a syncretic religion propounded by the Mughal emperor Akbar in 1582, intending to merge some of the elements of the religions of his empire, and thereby reconcile the differences that divided his subjects. The elements were primarily drawn from Islam, Hinduism, and Zoroastrianism, but some others were also taken from Christianity, Jainism, and Buddhism.

It was founded by Sher Shah Suri, original name Farid, who was the son of an afghan landlord, Hasan Khan Suri. The total number of the rulers remained seven, and among those seven kings only one ruled effectively, Sher Khan or Sher Shah Suri. Although Sher Shah ruled only five years, he remained so much successful in his reforms that even Mughals and the British followed his policies.
